THE REVIEW

"Nocturne" is an album I loved from the first listen because it is dynamic, complex in structure yet capable of reaching the heart. In the 14 tracks, you can feel Remo Anzovino's culture: an artist who traveled the world to create this album, practices as a criminal lawyer and is therefore used to observing people, and has written music for many silent films. The first track "Nocturne in Tokyo" is hypnotic and leads the listener by hand into a story that lasts a night, "Esatasi" is a piano and brass ballad of great intensity, "Storm" is linked to the music of Joy Division, particularly the album "Closer", "Istanbul" captures the colors of the city. The first single released was "Galilei", which is enhanced by the duduk solo of Vardan Grigoryan, bringing the culture of the Armenian people into a European track. In the booklet, Anzovino explains that he chose the nocturne form because it is the best way to narrate with evocative immediacy.

He writes: "The music on the album was born as a spontaneous flow of beauty, even if all the compositions, from the more dramatic ones like Storm to the more soothing ones, are the result of serious constructive effort. My writing arises and develops thanks to compositional technique. Technique is at the service of what I want to tell, and for me, it is fundamental to use music to the best of its potential to tell about others and not just about myself. It has always been a characteristic of mine. Composing the material for this album, I realized I could create music in which those who have a mature, albeit problematic, relationship with life's experience can particularly recognize themselves. The primary reason for this musical journey is therefore to bring others to the center of the music, demanding the best from myself to offer them something they need. A music that's almost 'medical', therapeutic, not consolatory, a tool to bring closer the ineffable beauty of imperfection, which is, in fact, life."

With this album, Anzovino slips into our imagination, opens all the doors, and invites us in to then let us follow the path we prefer.
