Reinhold Messner (born 1944) is an Italian mountaineer, author and explorer. He was the first to climb all 14 eight-thousanders and made the first solo ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen in 1980; a pioneer of alpine-style climbing and prolific non-fiction author.
