The Redjetson, six English guys at their debut (2004) with a diverse masterpiece named "New General Catalogue."
Falling in love at first listen, like a lightning strike, that’s how it was for me. An intertwining of pain and love and a race against time, very long and repetitive songs, that go beyond the customary norm, doing nothing but capturing the soul and contaminating everyday thought, like an electrocardiogram of emotions marking the rhythm, managing to differentiate in every hidden detail of theirs.
At first glance, they might seem cold and tiring songs but, on the contrary, are crafted in labyrinthine sound games, for a perfect realization, quite mature. And one gets so engrossed in listening, they don’t notice the length of the tracks exceeding five minutes. Rock caressed by pure melodies, so difficult to find these days in debuting bands.
Their style is unique and personal and I would say new, which should not be underestimated, but constantly monitored in the hope of future releases. They have the ability to transcend apparent stasis, painting the canvas of a great individual picture that gains value with time. In my opinion, it's a cd to listen to once in a while, building up that desire, with the result that, then the cd will be savored as if it were first love.
What I found in each track:
"Divorcie" – a highly refined succession between laments and hopes.
"Stay Comfortable" – a sweet lullaby.
"They, Every Day, For The Rest Of Your Life" - (the most beautiful track) is a sung fairy tale.
"This City Moans" – what I feel inside, every day…
"The Sky Is Breaking" – the darkest and deepest track with an unexpected explosion of color.
"New Europe" – intertwining of trumpet and acoustic guitar that constantly underscores the track.
"A Reptile, Cold Blood" – like discovering the worst side of us, somewhat unintentional.
"Wednesday’s Rivals" – the hope of believing in something again
"Perseverance Works" – the conviction that you can believe in something again
"America Is Its Only Friend" – heartbeat, that is life
"Pieces Go Missing" – gloomy, but this too is part of life.
In conclusion, with a personal judgment: rarely have I listened to such beauty, it’s a stratospheric cd…
