It is always pleasant to see how young musicians approach music with personal projects rather than the now overused cover bands. The Piedmontese band Red Light For Distortion falls into this category, active since 2012 but only now reaching the release of their debut EP "Iron[y] Weapons". What can be said about them, the good intentions are all there: the aim is to approach metal in an "alternative" manner, meaning not self-categorizing into a specific genre but rather trying to give broad breath to their artistic proposal. The resulting outcome is something that places groove metal, crossover, and a splash of thrash metal at the center of the project, with a final result that we could define as standard. It is evident that the quintet still has a long way to go artistically speaking. Firstly, they need to find a precise artistic path that leads them to have clear ideas themselves and secondly, a more meticulous approach to songwriting. Technically, the group shows they are on point, churning out riffs and tempo changes that are not bad when compared to what is usually heard in the classic debuts of many competitors, also managing to write a track like "Beliefs" that showcases a melodic vein you would never expect to hear from them. The singing needs to be "refined": the more melodic parts are good, but the growl definitely needs to be reviewed and reinterpreted, it's more than a little forced. Five tracks do not define the characteristics of a project but are certainly a good starting point to reflect upon. Now come on, get back to working hard, guys!
