Hello guys! I am a devotee of this site (a new user!) and therefore I take this opportunity to greet everyone who acts on this site (eheeje).
A few days ago I was in a shopping center in Latina and, while searching under Red Hot, I came across this CD with a cover similar to the more famous "What Hits?" but with a fascinating title: "Out in L.A." which for those who do not know is the title of the first historic song of the Californian quartet.
The CD, made up of 19 tracks taken a little from here and a little from there, is a kind of collection dedicated to tracing the group's "funk" origins. A collection that is at times melancholic, with tracks composed by the legendary Slovak (the guitarist who died of an overdose some time before), covers of Jimi Hendrix, The Meters, Stevie Wonder, Sylvester Stewart and so much, so much energy.
Here we see the true Red Hot, the real chili peppers, who didn't care about morals, who didn't care about profits! Here you savor the true spirit of the Californian Rock Band, which has nothing to do with the four money-hungry, MTV-idols of teenagers we see today. And I can tell you that even I, listening to this CD, but also the previous ones (Mother's Milk; What Hits?; Freaky Styley..), I cried. But not because the CD is a masterpiece or anything. But because by listening to this CD I give myself the illusion of stopping time, locking those four smoky and stoned bad boys in my mind and not releasing them anymore!
The crazy bass of "Big Flea" is almost an overdose of music, which enters your veins and forces you to dance and get wasted! The very fast and still fresh voice of Anthony Kiedis literally gives you goosebumps! These are the songs that originated the Red Hot and created the "myth," if we can define it that way.
Try listening to the beautiful Higher Ground (also present in "Mother's Milk") for example, and you will see what energy! Objectively speaking about the CD, I'll mention the songs that at least in my humble opinion are the most "beautiful":
Higher Ground: what rhythm!
Castle Made Of Sand: calmer, and it's live!
Out in l.a.: the first song ever, stays in the heart!
Green Heaven: great lyrics and a great riff by Flea!
Bow down to these Red Hot! In the end, if you are true fans of the Red Hot, this is a CD that should not be missing from your collection even if it is not a true masterpiece! I greet you guys, I have to go, I hope you enjoyed the review even though I had little time to write it and it's not perfect!
Please make sure to comment, I want to know what you think!
