Roncade di Treviso. New Age Club. 11-02-2011.

Massimo Volume, active again since 2008, present their new album "Cattive Abitudini" released by La Tempesta Dischi on October 15th.

The evening is opened by the Treviso-based Valentina Dorme, intense and properly supported by the mostly local audience, who sing the band's songs.

Around 23:30, Massimo Volume take the stage. Egle Sommacal on the left of the stage, off to the side, turned inward towards the band and not the audience. Vittoria Burattini behind her drums. Stefano Pilia on the right in an advanced position, right in front of my spot. Emidio Clementi at the center of the stage, statuesque in his sobriety and authority. The stage is bare without any scenery, it seems huge, empty due to the wide spaces between each musician.

In the silence of the New Age, they start with "Robert Lowell" the first energetic track of the new "Cattive Abitudini". The manifesto of returning home. They follow one after the other, in apnea, all the tracks from "Cattive Abitudini". All the tracks are filled with an intensity I had never felt before at a rock concert. I find it pointless to try and rank them: everything is perfect, profound, moving, tense. No formal words from Mimì. No useless choruses from the audience, who seem to fully grasp the spirit of the group (perhaps due to the rather high average age, which leads me to think of long-time fans). Fabulous sounds, perfect harmony among the band members.

After the performance of "Cattive Abitudini", Mimì thanks and leaves the stage with the others. At this point, a die-hard fan takes over the scene, starting to urge the Bolognese band back on stage. They don't make us wait (like rock stars) and return after a minute. A deep breath and "Il Primo Dio" lights up the New Age, followed by "Il Tempo Scorre Lungo i Bordi" and "Fuoco Fatuo". This is the more classically rock part of the ritual with fans raising their hands, singing, shouting, encouraging Massimo Volume who seem to receive the fans' affection with embarrassment.

Another exit, another quick return. Before the new encore, a fan shouts "WELCOME BACK!". Mimì smiles, exchanging glances with the others, who return the smile. Massimo Volume move us even when they are silent. The return home is wonderful. The atmosphere is perfect. It ends on a high note: "Stanze", "In nome di Dio","Stagioni". Always one after the other, no comments, just music! Massimo Volume thank the audience. Mimì gives his pick to a young fan in the front row.

The exit is humble, graceful, and intense, like the entire concert. A masterpiece of rock and poetry.

I was thunderstruck.

Thank you Massimo Volume. See you soon.
