The G.I. Joe, yes, them, the little action figures from when we were kids, are two guys from Treviso, just two 23-year-olds, signed to Fooltribe, and you wonder what the hell these guys play, well, they absolutely rock.
First point: there's no guitar. None. Except Alessandro's bass, which is often played as if it were a guitar, the one-dimensional man teaches us; or rather, it is abused worse than a guitar. Second point: in Patchwork, the opening track, in the second part there's not even the bass, not even the voice, just Riccardo's drums. Actually, two drums: if you see them live it's amazing, the guy, the first one, suddenly lays the bass on the ground and runs to a second ramshackle drum set for a duet as fantastic as it is unexpected and unusual.
But what do these G.I. Joe play?! Indie / Post Rock - Lo-Fi - Funky, alternative and experimental but still extremely catchy and danceable, really, funky and groovy rhythms everywhere (listen to Wonderwoman, your leg won't stay still)! Noise and chaos are harnessed into structured, precise forms with complete sense, even if a few crumbs of noise manage to escape without problems in these 6 debut tracks.
Perhaps the recording softens the sound impact a bit, which, I assure you, live is truly astonishing, despite the instrumentation that to call it barebones is an understatement... see for yourself: if they come by your area, don’t miss them!
