Il Genio is an interesting duo composed of Gianluca De Rubertis (already the keyboardist of Studiodavoli) and Alessandra Contini. Electronic, pop, retro atmospheres - this is their calling card.

Self-titled debut, theirs, under Disastro Records (a label linked to the historic Cramps Records); 40 minutes that let us fully appreciate their qualities; 12 tracks, 12 gems that shine with their own light.

Let's now turn the spotlight on the album.

"Il Genio" flows quickly. Minimal (and effective) arrangements adorned with keyboards, drum machines, bass and guitar provide the perfect backdrop for the group's two voices, Gianluca's serious one and Alessandra's sensual (a bit porno?) one (do Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg ring a bell?) that manage to deliver a magnificent interpretation of the lyrics. How can one resist "Pop Porno" (destined to become a sublime hit on the Italian airplay), "L'orrore" (with its references to B-series horror films), "La pathetique" (a genuine gem of the album) - an emotional duet between Alessandra and Gianluca, arranged to perfection, "Una giapponese a Roma" (a very successful and clever cover of the classic by Kahimi Karie).

One of the hottest names of the 2008 season. A debut that hits the mark. And we're just getting started...
