THE REVIEW

What can be said about this album, about how everything revolves around Brian Molko's voice and his somewhat junkie and androgynous appearance?
And this is enough for us girls and we like it, mysterious him and his voice. One of those you don't forget quickly, that you recognize immediately as if it were the Smashing, intense and unique.
But as such, it may or may not appeal, I repeat, it drives me crazy, but probably appeals less to the boys. It's simply a matter of taste and... maybe gender.

This CD, their first work, reminds me of a warm and beautiful summer in Reunion, when driving around with their music I would get caught up in looking at the endless horizon over the ocean and the breathtaking inland landscapes, simply staying silent to forget the reality around you and just them on the car radio. The sun sets. Perfect, therefore, for spending an evening in the company of oneself and for escaping for a precious moment from daily stress.

Be careful though, the placebo effect can also be counterproductive and overwhelm you with sadness and desolation, so keep hands off alcohol and other substances and just try to dance ;). This concerning the effects, risks, and contraindications one is exposed to with Placebo.

From a musical point of view, their English origin might deceive, as the background special effects are missing and the harder songs are very fast and technical, always thanks to Brian's prodigious hand and guitar, the latter almost always soaring in the skies of distortion.
And the excellent final result achieved overall by this work is guaranteed by a full-bodied bass, which often seems to abandon its accompanying function to lead and dictate the rhythms, and by a punctual and sophisticated drum, but never heavy or in the foreground.

But the beautiful voice remains the trademark, sexy and beautiful. A beautiful debut album.
