The Profile

Razor are a Canadian thrash metal band from Guelph, Ontario, led by guitarist and founder Dave Carlo. Active since the mid‑1980s with a raw, high‑speed sound, they released a run of classic albums through the ’80s and early ’90s, later returning with new material, including the publicly documented comeback Cycle of Contempt (2022).

Founded in Guelph, Ontario by guitarist Dave Carlo; early lineups included Stace “Sheepdog” McLaren (vocals), Mike Campagnolo (bass) and M-BRO/Mike Embro (drums), later featuring Rob Mills (drums), Adam Carlo (bass) and Bob Reid (vocals). Key albums include Executioner’s Song (1985), Evil Invaders (1985), Malicious Intent (1986), Custom Killing (1987), Violent Restitution (1988), Shotgun Justice (1990), Open Hostility (1991) and Decibels (1997). Labels mentioned in reviews include Viper/Attic, Steamhammer and Diabolic Force. Open Hostility used a drum machine after Rob Mills’ accident. The band are noted for a fast, street‑level thrash approach over polish.

Seven DeBaser reviews paint Razor as fast, fierce and proudly street-level: huge energy, raw production, and a devotion to old-school thrash over polish. Writers note lineup era shifts (McLaren to Reid), a drum machine on Open Hostility after Rob Mills’ injury, and recurring themes of violence and speed. Highlights include Violent Restitution’s bite and Evil Invaders’ primitive charm. Overall judgment: lovable underdogs with chainsaw guitars and zero frills.
