Loco: the perfect adjective for this amazing live performance by the Ramones recorded in Barcelona in 1991, as they were heading towards the end. The beginning is entrusted, for some curious reason, to the theme from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," followed by the first blast: "Teenage Lobotomy", then "Psycho Therapy" and the legendary "Blitzkrieg Bop". Most of the songs last less than three minutes and include tracks from all of the Ramones' albums, from the first one up to "Brain Drain" of 1989 (31 tracks in total), obviously including the band's great classics, such as "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker", "Rock n' Roll High School", "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment", "Pinhead", and "Pet Cemetary". The songs follow one after the other without any pause: all incredibly simple, engaging, and played at supersonic speed, with Joey's drunken voice completing the work, and it is precisely here where the magic and beauty of this live performance lies. Truly stunning is "The KKK Took My Baby Away" from 1981, which speaks of a woman caught between Joey and Johnny.
Loco Live is a bit like the "Made In Japan" of punk, an extraordinary live performance that, given the times, actually marks the end of true punk (soon after, various Green Day, Blink & company would arrive...). Nevertheless, it remains an extraordinary live performance by a band that made history, and it would truly be a shame to miss it.
