THE REVIEW

Well, the album I am about to review holds great significance for me, so if the review seems biased, I apologize.

The album is one of the most beautiful by the Ramones, released around '79, but it was overshadowed by its (magnificent) predecessors,'Ramones' and 'Rocket to Russia,' two very important albums for the history of rock. The album starts with Do You Remember Rock n' Roll Radio?, a delightful song that flows wonderfully and is followed by 2 quieter songs: Danny Says and Danny Says. These are songs with a splendid, calm melody that precedes the energy unleashed by Chinese Rock.

The Return of Jackie and Judy is perhaps the best of the album, along with Rock n' Roll Radio, and if the overly saccharine Baaaaaaby I Loooove You risks being boring, it immediately picks up again with Let's Go. The album consists of 12 songs, and if you get the expanded edition (like I did), you'll find more content, but what matters about this record is that the Ramones have created many MASTERPIECES, like this one.

01   Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio? (03:52)

Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio Let's go
Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio Let's go
Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio Let's go
Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio Let's go

Do you remember Hullabaloo,
Upbeat, Shinding and Ed Sullivan too?
Do you remember rock'n'roll radio?
Do you remember rock'n'roll radio?

Do you remember Murray the K,
Alan Freed, and high energy?
It's the end, the end of the 70's
It's the end, the end of the century

Do you remember lying in bed
With your covers pulled up over your head?
Radio playin' so no one can see
We need change, we need it fast
Before rock's just part of the past
'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me
Oh oh oh oh, oh oh

Will you remember Jerry Lee,
John Lennon, T. Rex and OI Moulty?
It's the end, the end of the 70's
It's the end, the end of the century

02   I'm Affected (02:53)

When I look into your big brown eyes and i feel
Like I'm in paradise. I wan't you by my side.
'Cause I'm affected, 'fected
Yeah, I'm affected, 'fected. Well I'm affected.
And all I want is you.

Didn't know it a few years ago, but now finally
Know. I want you by my side.
I want you baby, baby, baby, baby.

Yeah, I love you and I want you to know.
Yeah, yeah, and that's for sure I want you
By my side. 'Cause I'm affected, 'fected
Yeah, I'm affected, Well I'm affected.
And all I want is you.

03   Danny Says (03:09)

Danny says we gotta go. Gotta go to Idaho
But we can't go surfin' 'cause it's 20 below.

Sound check's at 5:02. Record stores and interviews.
Oh, but I can't wait to be with you tomorrow.

Baby

Oho-ho-ho, we got nowhere to go and it may sound
Funny, but's true. Hangin' out in 100 B watching
Get Smart on TV. Thinkin' about.
You and me and you and me.

Hangin' out in L.A. And there's nowhere to go.
It ain't Christmas if there ain't no snow.
Listening to Sheena on the radio.
Oh-ho oh-ho.

I can't make it on time.

I can't hurry and you can't wait. It doesn't
matter 'cause we're already late.
I can't get off the telephone.
It always rings when I'm alone.

You gotta wait wait 'cause you don't
Need no one. Wait wait, 'cause you
Know that I'm the one.
You gotta wait. Hey, hey' hey. Wait.

It breaks my heart to see that this great album has been treated with such superficiality.

End of Century is a jewel in the Ramones' discography that flows fast and genuine.
