..this review is for me an act of gratitude towards this iconic band.
Many times Thom Yorke (leader and vocalist of Radiohead) has mentioned in his interviews searching for the stylistically "perfect" song... well, "OK computer" is, in my humble opinion, a perfect album. There isn't a sound in this work that doesn't evoke something... even "fitter happier", an almost hidden and very "electronic" song, has a soul that invades the listener and makes them part of this musical journey: yes indeed, "OK computer" demonstrates that music fulfills its purpose when it conveys emotions, this is what "Ok computer" does, and this for me is called ART.
The album opens with "Airbag", and here already are all the premises of the masterpiece we are about to enjoy; "paranoid android" true jewel of rock and experimentation: can you believe they had the courage to release it as a single!!!!!!!!!; "Subterranean homesick alien" ethereal and psychedelic song; "Exit music (for a film)": here one must stand up and thank the minds that conceived this gem: beautiful and disorienting lyrics: Yorke's voice is superlative and turns into an instrument itself; it's impossible to reach the end of the track without feeling chills running down your spine, everything about this piece is beautiful, and even the background vocals play their part; "Let down" is musically the most cheerful and "sunny" song but paradoxically the lyrics are among the most melancholic of the entire Radiohead production: I consider this song one of the most beautiful rock songs (and not only..) of the last at least 30 years; "Karma Police" another gem, another example of a "stylistically perfect" song; "Fitter happier" has already been mentioned; "Electrolenic" very political and very harsh piece; "climbing up the walls": great piece, epic, full of tension, and therefore very rock; "No surprises" a very sweet song, a little gem among gems; "Lucky" here echoes of Pink Floyd, Yorke's voice is wonderful; "The tourist" worthy closure... and unfortunately the journey is over... the music has fulfilled its task: TO MOVE.
THANK YOU RADIOHEAD for giving us this immortal album... truly thank you from the heart...
Take me on board their beautiful ship / Show me the world as I love to see it.
I’d show them the stars / And the meaning of life.
Everyone is so tense I wish they would descend into a country lane late at night while I'm driving.
I would show them the stars and the meaning of life, they would have me committed but I would be fine.
Listening to the record is like looking at that cover again... Perfect harmony between visual and sound art.
It’s as if someone penetrated your brain and never stopped, a subterranean alien that kidnaps you and takes you to another planet.
OK Computer represents the perfect synthesis of what the English group had done in the past and will do in the future.
Paranoid Android is the album’s gem (and perhaps of their entire discography) with a tense acoustic beginning that flows into an intermezzo of distorted guitars.
It is an album that captures you, never bores you, doesn’t sadden you, and after daily stress, it actually relaxes you.
Radiohead could be a good step forward in the right direction.
