THE REVIEW

Radiohead.

There are many who hate this band, for various reasons. The fact is that you either love them or hate them, and if there's one thing that can't be argued, it's their constant evolution, their continuous and always surprising change of style. "Ok Computer" - their artistic peak, class of 1997 - does it rank among the best albums ever created? Extremism. Does it rank among the worst albums ever created? Another (and far more serious) extremism. In truth, it is just a splendid album, to savor and love. The emotions it communicates are indescribable in words, it makes you fall into a white, sparkling tunnel... Pop. Well-crafted pop, high-quality pop. This is true. The mischievous call it "useless pop," useless. However, it must be recognized that they know how to play, and Yorke's voice is truly beautiful.

I'll just say that if there's an album capable of reflecting the busy comings and goings of the modern era, which reflects the crisis of our time, it is precisely this one. Sweet. But also pessimistic. Radiohead are always years ahead, this is known, in fact "Ok Computer" came out eleven years ago but is only now, in 2008, fully understandable.

The album opens with the shocking "Airbag" and concludes with the relaxing "The Tourist". Is there no concept? I wouldn't be so sure. Some speculate it is a representation of human phases, from birth to death, from beginning to end. I agree.

I don't intend to delve into and examine the guts of this masterpiece/garbage; suffice it to say: if you are looking for an album capable of portraying the twenty-first century in all its facets, you won't find anything better than this. Whether you like it or not... is irrelevant.

No alarm, and no surprises.

Silent.

Take me on board their beautiful ship / Show me the world as I love to see it.

I’d show them the stars / And the meaning of life.

Everyone is so tense I wish they would descend into a country lane late at night while I'm driving.

I would show them the stars and the meaning of life, they would have me committed but I would be fine.

Listening to the record is like looking at that cover again... Perfect harmony between visual and sound art.

It’s as if someone penetrated your brain and never stopped, a subterranean alien that kidnaps you and takes you to another planet.

OK Computer represents the perfect synthesis of what the English group had done in the past and will do in the future.

Paranoid Android is the album’s gem (and perhaps of their entire discography) with a tense acoustic beginning that flows into an intermezzo of distorted guitars.

It is an album that captures you, never bores you, doesn’t sadden you, and after daily stress, it actually relaxes you.

Radiohead could be a good step forward in the right direction.
