In this globalized world where everything resembles something else, there can still be pleasant surprises.

The Quruli, which means somersault in Japanese, come from the Kansai area, they formed in 1996, and this is their third album released in 2001. They make excellent alternative rock with exquisite pop traits, strictly sung in Japanese, just as all the information about them on the internet is in Japanese apart from some translated fragments.
And this is what we like, not understanding anything of the lyrics, just like when we were kids and didn't understand anything from the songs in English. But we liked them all the same. Wonder.

The fourth song on the album is "Ai-naki Sekai" (translated: Loveless World), perfect indie uptempo with catchy and melodic guitar riffs. We don't understand anything of the lyrics, except for the title, which was translated for us by a friend...the bass spins fast, and the chorus goes ‘du-du-dup-du-du. Indie that could have come out of England.
"Eien" (Forever) begins with piano notes with sampled noises in the background. The samples and guitars integrate perfectly.
"Bara-no hana" (Rose) sounds like Popsicle-style pop, an excellent and forgotten Swedish band.

An excellent album, the eleven songs flow quickly, compact. The only problem: for most people, it will be difficult to listen to them, the album costs 40 USD on cdnow.
