"Mud is the story of the passing time while we remain stuck, letting precious moments slip away...thinking that the easiest way is the right one...believing we remain ourselves while the mirror shows us other images"

(Quote. Quietflow)

Roby and Carlo have been friends of mine for decades; musicians by passion. Throughout the years, they have created countless music projects, starting from the nineties onward. They never set barriers, ranging from Metal to Stoner to Hardcore-Punk; and with this new band, they ventured into an unexpected, at least for me, Electronica.

The Quietflow project was born here in Ossola during the gray period of lockdown. The tracks take shape starting from the initial embryonic bass lines, which are then expanded and completed with drums and synths. An album and an EP have already been released; just a few weeks ago they recorded and published a new single "Mud"; they have transformed from a duo into a trio with the permanent addition of Maury on synths. They abandoned vocals, deciding to play instrumental music only.

The video associated with the track is captivating, mixed and mastered by Marco Cassone (I have already mentioned him with two reviews here on the Hobos/// deb).

I am not particularly suitable for "describing" the sensations experienced while listening to the single: the sounds are quite distant from my tastes. So, I asked for help from Zion, who is much more comfortable and knowledgeable about the music in question.

From a careful listening, Mud appears as a somewhat successful attempt to merge electronic sounds with a certain Indie/Post-Rock vibe, which somewhat reminded us of Giardini Di Mirò and the very early New Order. There are nice rhythmic variations (transitions from odd timings to more regular drums) and the structure winks at the song form (verse-chorus-bridge...). They draw upon the New-Wave of the eighties, with a more modern identity. We believe that incorporating a voice would have made the piece more complete, but this is just our personal opinion which does not affect the quality of Quietflow.
