LA RECENSIONE

“I work from the gut, you know.”

And for those who appreciate the aesthetic taste of visceralness, here’s a listening recommendation that will please your large intestine.

Remove everything jazzy you might find in the Jesus Lizard (and if you don't find it, search better, then remove it). Leave the sick howls, the relentless rhythm, and the powerful roar of a deep and screeching guitar at the same time. You’ll get (alas partially, hence the rating) the primordial energy of an anomalous and countertrend trio.

David Yow provides the vocal contribution on some tracks, feeling perfectly at ease with this sound perhaps stylistically out of date but still having some exquisite bullets to fire.

It starts with “Apartment” where the drummer sets his standard of work, relentless and cavernous. “Today, Gestation” and “Gash” introduce Yow in a performance as a drooling sex maniac, reinforced by lascivious and cadenced arrangements.

“Freeze” is the pinnacle of the album, my favorite track: brutal, sarcastic, saturated, drunk!

Unfortunately, from here on the tone changes for the worse, with a couple of stretched tracks closer to the post-coital trances of certain Led Zeppelin. The last three tracks are fillers, two covers (the Zappa-Beefheartesque "Willie The Pimp" is amusing, the Floydian "Echoes" is out of place) and the reexecution of a track already present on the previous album.

As an EP, the first 4 tracks would be a little gem, always listened to again with perverse pleasure. A round of encouraging applause, come on!

Summary by Bot

The review praises 'Love's Miracle' for its visceral power and primal energy reminiscent of Jesus Lizard but stripped of jazzy elements. David Yow's vocals enhance several tracks with distinctive intensity. The first half of the album is strong, featuring relentless rhythm and powerful guitar, highlighted by the standout track 'Freeze'. However, the latter part suffers from weaker, filler tracks, including two covers and repetitive material. As an EP, the initial four tracks are highly recommended.
