Queens Of The Stone Age - Stone Age Complications
How lucky to find oneself in a music megastore in one of the most important French cities during the release period of this mini album...
Yes, indeed! Because Italy hasn't seen even a single copy, as far as I know, of the latest EP by QOTSA. I own a copy of this - very rare - record, (clearly original) and I boast about it showing my butt to all the most tireless among the tireless fans of the Queens. This is all I can do, because, beyond a purely collectible aspect, I don't see any other purpose for Stone Age Complications. 24 minutes of songs that one way or another are already known. Too few 24 minutes for some covers, some remixes, and some not completely new unreleased tracks.

But! But, but, but... wait! Okay, few novelties... and it's true, it's really well recorded and it brings out the best in the band. But, find some way to get hold of the aforementioned EP and you will realize that it foreshadows precisely what will be the sound and style of the fourth QOTSA album, Lullabies To Paralyze. That is, torpid; with references to the '60s à la Kinks; with acidic atmospheres à la Subhumans (the cover of "Wake Up Screaming" is spectacular); and with a partial return to a sound in Josh Homme's guitars from when he still spewed mud in Kyuss, that is, slow and scorching six-string psychedelia.

A record collector - worthy of the name -, who likes stoner, cannot consider themselves such if they lack rarities (keep in mind that in stoner there are more rarities than well-known albums... just think of the legendary vinyl of Katzenjammer); but if you look carefully at some record fair, you'll find it. And then you too can walk around with your butt out!
