LA RECENSIONE

After delighting us in 2000 with the phantasmagoric and innovative "The Unseen", in 2002 the deviant mind of Madlib and his schizoid alter-ego Quasimoto return to wreak havoc, releasing "Astronaut EP", a very short mini-album containing three tracks, calling them outtakes from the previous long-play would indeed be doing it an injustice.

Two years after the previous work, in fact, Otis Jackson Jr.'s talent seems not at all worn out, but indeed always projected towards new and crazy experiments, and the EP in question is clear proof of this. It starts with the quirky sound universe of the title-track "Astronaut", with the ultra-compressed little voice of our protagonist standing out, then moves on to the deviant harp melodies of "Am I Confused?" and the instrumental "Lonely Piano" with its irresistible samples with a vague Latin-Jazz flavor. Eight minutes of music or a little more, in short, but enough to reaffirm the infinite class of the producer-astronaut-Nexus from Oxnard, always orbiting around the Moon, in search of sounds that we humans cannot imagine.
