I Putrefaction Sets In are a goregrind supergroup formed by members of Regurgitate, Expurgo, Lymphatic Phlegm, and General Surgery. And their first musical endeavor could only be a blast!

“Repugnant Inception Of Decomposing Paroxysm” released in 2022 by Selfmadegod Records consists of 14 tracks for a duration of 29 minutes, and it kicks off with the first track “Toxaemia Putrefacta” which delivers the first blow with blast beats, repugnant guitars, distorted bass, and the inhuman voice of the singer. This album revives the glories of bands like Regurgitate, early Carcass, and Exhumed like nothing else could, with a damn catchy and quite fun groove to listen to. The extremely distorted guitars are furious as in the following track “Dispersion Of Post-Mortem Lividity,” and on vocals, we have a truly furious screamer, with very tight tempos. The extremely distorted bass of “From Flesh To Bloated (Crepitant Gaseous Swelling)” paves the way for one of the most violent tracks in the collection, like the following “Marbled To Rot,” where blast beats take the stage with dirty and filthy guitars only to make way for slowdowns bordering on Doom Metal with final feedback. “Putrid Deliquescent Mass” is a d-beat track where the singer's affected voice dominates the entire piece, a minute and forty-two seconds of pure unhealthy and abject goregrind.

“Degloving” starts with guitar distortions only to become a showcase of bad taste in music with plunger-like vocals and incredibly fast tempos. “March Of The Rigor Mortis” starts slow only to turn into the usual bloodbath with animalistic and repulsive screams. But that is the entirety of the album, there’s no point in dwelling on one track over the others; these 29 minutes are meant to be listened to all in one breath.

As a big fan of Regurgitate, I crazily love this “Repugnant Inception Of Decomposing Paroxysm,” and on my personal “Shit-list,” it ranks at the top for goregrind albums released in 2022. A revolting cover that fully depicts what is proposed by this hellish and cacophonous music.

I only hope it’s not a one-off project and that we’ll soon see a follow-up; in 2025, they’ve already released a single, so I expect another kick-ass album like this one soon.
