Artistic choices, economic decisions, or call them what you want, but choices they are.

Something didn't quite sit right with Frank Carter, and after the interesting beginnings as the voice of the Gallows, an emerging presence in British Metal, he decided to change direction and embark on a different musical path.

"Pure Love" is apparently the name given to a band that wants to set young girls' hearts on fire, but Carter, with his past and tattoos up to his neck, doesn't exactly fit the profile to be the cool guy. Therefore, in his new project, he puts everything that he couldn’t previously consider feasible without setting excessive boundaries; mixing melody, punk rock and a touch of pop rock he releases "Anthems" at the beginning of 2013 with the collaboration of Jim Carroll - The Hope Conspiracy - whom he met on tour with the Gallows.

In "Anthems," there are several elements for an intriguing listen, from the garage sounds of the first single "Bury My Bones" to the softer melodic approaches of the melancholic ballad "Anthem." Leading the charge for this debut is the superhit "Beach Of Diamonds," played in continuous rotation on several radios and a staple of this year's European rock charts. So melodic, it has likely led to the definitive departure of long-time fans of Carter, still too accustomed to the hardcore of the Gallows that is worlds apart from this current piece.

As you go through the album, "Anthems" proves to be an honest and fun record, and while it doesn't offer particularly exceptional tracks, it doesn't fall into predictable rock pitfalls either. "Handsome Devil's Club" and the romantic "Burning Love" are well-played and pleasant to listen to, along with the closing tracks, especially "Riot Song," that manage to instill the album with energy and melody.

Overall, one can only consider this new band's debut as positive. Whether this is a project that will not continue or a true new musical path cannot be said today; for sure, this experiment will be remembered thanks to a handful of enjoyable and fun rock tracks.
