LA RECENSIONE

Dear readers, we are in front of one of the greatest artists of the last century. Have you never heard of him? That's unfortunate, but I'm not surprised.

In Crete, his homeland, he is considered a god, the Cretan god Psarantonis. And legend has it that even Zeus was born on the island of Crete. The album is titled “Treats of Zeus” but I won't discuss it in detail. Psarantonis cannot be encapsulated in a handful of songs. The album is just a pretext, a starting point to talk about him. Psarantonis is over seventy years old, his voice over two thousand. Listen to him and you'll understand.....

It's the voice of the earth and the mountains, the sea and the wind, the thunder and the lightning. Trembling earth, incredible strength. Everything is passion in Psarantonis, energy. It's impossible to confine him to a musical category. One might say world or folk, but that's not enough. I hear the roots of the Velvet Underground, and you'll also understand why Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are among his admirers. They draw from Psarantonis with full hands. And the rebel from Anogeia, like an ancient prophet, a profound connoisseur of nature and men, continues to give us his vibrations and his music. The echo expands vigorously from the top of Mount Psiloritis. He has the heart of a child and the strength of Poseidon. I almost forgot, he almost always accompanies his singing by unconventionally playing the Cretan lyre. But this is the least important thing.
