THE REVIEW

Prince navigates past fifty with a triple album that won't make music history (history was already made in its time), but it delights enthusiasts with its renewed freshness and the guitar grit in a Hendrixian style (listen to the sample, pliiis) of the most successful second disc, "lotusflow3r".

The ambitious lotus flower project consists of three albums which, in the perfect Prince philosophy, each testify to their own fiercely independent existence from one another: "Lotus Flow3r", already mentioned, a super edgy rock album all (or almost) played with a classic band including contra bassoons. "Mplsounds", an onanist-onemanproduction record all (or almost) with explosive electronic funk songs alias "chocolate box", "ol skool company". Finally, "Elixer" = he-licks-her (I hope that comes across!) produced and played by Prince and band and sung by the latest bombshell Bria Valente. This last album is actually very interesting for the mood it sets in the environment and, in circumstances of suitable company, in life-at-large. What else to say: packaging & design very cheap. On the flip side: fabulous production and mixing, perhaps one of the best albums technically speaking.

Putting aside Bria's hormone album ("he-licks-her"), mixing "lotusflow3r" and "mlpsounds" achieves a more than excellent album by Prince with at least four standout tracks ("boom"; "Dreamer"; "colonized mind"; "chocolate box").
