"A record of treachery and virtue".
A few days late from the release date, September 29th, here I am talking to you (I wonder what and how much joy it brings you) about the new Primus album; the blame lies with the express courier of my musical supplier in Domodossola who only this morning was able to deliver the beautiful package containing the ninth album of the Californian power trio.
A work already reviewed a month ago by two somewhat unreliable types, Almotasim and DeMarga, from the site (who honestly get a bit on my nerves... just kidding!!!).
The choice of cousin Les to release the album precisely on the 29th of last month is not coincidental: it's his birthday!! Best wishes then, dear; and 54 not carried as well as you'd like to make us believe. But age is optional because you know well this "The Desaturating Seven" will undoubtedly be, for me, the album of the year.
Les, for the first time since we've known each other, I managed to find a flaw in the album!!: its length. Just under 35 minutes; damn, you and those other two, Larry and Tim, could have made an effort for another ten minutes. It certainly wouldn't have been easy to concentrate for long at your Rancho Relaxo, between binges and libations, laughs, games, pranks from your kids, various stuff. And then I read in the credits that Justin Chancellor, bassist for Tool, was present; in this regard, I ask you to ask (what a horrible turn of phrase) Justin if he has precise news (!!!) about the long-delayed new work of his main band.
But how gorgeous are the cover and the inner booklet!! Bright and colorful drawings that surely pleased your offspring.
An album that I feel close to your previous work from 2014; the same sober and controlled pace of the tracks. The same dark, dense groove where your bass always stands out; but I would say that the punctual embellishments of Larry's layered guitar are not lacking. And Tim's precision on the drums proves to me once again your cohesion, your mutual trust in producing and playing what and how you want, without the slightest problem since the record label "ATO Records" completely trusts your work.
You know that several times your voice reminded me of that devil Tom Waits: the same depth, the same grotesque and snarling improvisation.
Seven tracks that from the first listen have entered deeply into me, and they will stay there along with everything you've produced in past decades.
A moody, quirky, introspective album; in its way fascinating and also dangerous because it creates addiction. (I'm already in withdrawal and I have to listen to it all again immediately... YIKES).
Someone here in Italy called it your most formulaic album, the least successful one; I prefer not to comment, Les. You will share my opinion; jealousy is a nasty beast.
I hope to see you here soon (I will keep the above-mentioned pompous critics away from the stage); maybe it will be the right time for you to introduce me to your heirs.
Warm regards, your devoted ....nzo.

Les definitively imposes himself here as a contrapuntist, as an architect, but also as a maestro, for whom dance is a reason for living.
Primus haec intellegit. Anyone who has been hanging around Debaser for a long time should listen to the album at least once, indeed two, three, four, five, six...THE SEVEN...!!!
