The Joyce Award 2018 concluded just before the vacation exodus completely occupied thoughts dedicated to cultural events. Nonetheless, a few days ago, in the historic venue that hosts the Editorial Office of the online site Chitarre20, the names of the authors and their respective winning works, which online readers sent to the finals, were announced. The jury of the Joyce Award 2018 determined the following ranking.

First place
The Girl with the Leica. Helena Janeczek is the winner of the prestigious Premio Strega 2018 and the Premio Bagutta 2018. The book is about the twenty-seven-year-old Gerda Taro.

Second place
The Dragon's Son. The singer-songwriter from Bologna, Mimmo Parisi, in a political and social climate aspiring for change, wanted to participate with a metaphorical novel.

Third place
The Angel's Purgatory, by Maurizio de Giovanni. The work, after a harsh winter, rewards its characters with a bright May, but also with problems: on the beach that stretches into the sea of Posillipo, the body of an elderly priest is found.

Fourth place
Every Breath. The book is a product of the pen of Nicholas Sparks. The protagonist is portrayed by the magnetic writer in Africa. His name is Tru Walls, and he works as a safari guide. At Sunset Beach, where he lives, he receives a letter from a man claiming to be his father.

Fifth place
Devour the Sky, by Paolo Giordano. Adolescence and the transition to adulthood, with everything that entails in moving from a land barely known, constitute the setting that seems to best represent the Italian writer.

In closing this modest article, it is added and hoped that the mentioned books will become a source of curiosity: perhaps one might come across a particularly captivating text.
