PRAINO - Il disco di Praino
(Rec Dischi Indipendenti)
Francesco Praino was born in 1989, this quirky and original singer-songwriter. But despite this, perhaps in his previous life, he listened to quite a bit of British pop, and in particular the Smiths. Just listen to the single (Spleen) to understand how, both for those bouncy reggae-like guitars that Morrissey & Co. loved so much to soften their undeniable "spleen" (different due to geographic coordinates, Manchester vs. Cassano allo Jonio, Calabria), and for that pop-lightness of the singing, Praino is indeed an Italian singer-songwriter, but with roots beyond the Channel. And so it's as if Rino Gaetano (also from Calabria, also reggae-oriented like Praino in many songs, also a lover of nonsense like Francesco), in his 31 years of life had had time to listen to British pop. Praino ideally picks up the baton from his fellow countryman and, although representing different scenarios (a spleen with a smile on the lips, the lifelessness of the permanently precarious), he brings to mind with imagination an artist who made a significant piece of Italian pop history.
