THE REVIEW

Old album, from the distant 1992, when I was still a little tender child and unaware of Steven Wilson and his companions. Strange album, in the best tradition of prog-rock.

The album consists of four parts that describe the "voyage" of an unfortunate fellow embarking for the thirty-fourth time on taking the artist's drug, LSD, but unlike the previous ones, this trip into the world of acid goes wrong. The external, detached voice narrating the evolution of the journey alternates with the voice of Brian himself, the direct participant. The entire album is only spoken, with large sections left to very fitting instrumental pieces, which, although not showcasing great technique, are very expressive.

Good album, much more prog than the last two albums (which I consider true masterpieces of underground and prog music) where interesting statements about the world of drugs are made. The four stars are certainly deserved, it's not five because it's not a necessary album if you want to get an idea of the "Porcupine Tree" world, but it's useful if you want to have a broader horizon.
