1970-2020. This year marks the 50th anniversary of this little-known album by the Pooh, the third in their career, the last one before the big success of Tanta voglia di lei and Pensiero, included in the subsequent Opera Prima. This Memorie signals the stabilization of the Facchinetti-Negrini partnership, the first handling the music, the second the lyrics. In fact, all twelve tracks present are the result of their collaboration. It begins with a sound collage that explains the entire album in just a few seconds. For the only time in the group's history, Riccardo Fogli sings almost all the solo parts, except for La fata della luna, already recorded under the title La leggenda della luna, where Valerio Negrini and Roby Facchinetti sing. Even in this album, as in the previous one, Dodi has not yet emerged as a singer. In this work, serious and sad lyrics alternate with cheerful and carefree music. This will be the last beat excitement from the Pooh, who will then move toward the pop rock that will make them famous and recognizable. Among the tracks, none have really remained in collective memory, but the song that is most remembered after a few listens is definitely Mary Ann, while from the first side, Ai confini del mondo also left an impression; on the second side, Johnny e Lisa and the title track, Memorie, stand out. Despite a tour in Japan to launch the album, the Pooh did not manage to make a breakthrough. But it would only take a year, because with Opera Prima, where the title signifies both the symphonic and operatic character and their first "real album," the four will become famous with songs that are still sung today, almost half a century after their release. I give Memorie 3 stars, not full ones, Contrasto dared more.
