First, a few premises.
This review has something special for me, for various reasons.
- It's the first one, apart from maybe the very first on Zaireeka, from a good eight years ago (damn, how time flies), written on the spur of the moment, without using an external word processor. In short, you might not care much, but maybe it's more "spontaneous" than usual. Who knows, it might be the beginning of a new chapter on DeBaser, without necessarily having to change my nickname...
- Perhaps, at least I think so, for once I managed to snatch the review of a psychedelic album worthy of being reviewed from my friend psycho...
- Last but not least, unexpectedly, I just had the same splendid adventure as the first time I listened to the first album by Cymbals Eat Guitars (going back to the previous point to correct myself, ...it's the second time).
At this point, to understand what I experienced, it's enough for you to, if you feel like it, go and read that review. The only difference is that this time I listened to the whole album. And that the tracks on the two albums are clearly different...
I will just add that, from what I've read on the web, the core of the group, Australian, is based on two members from Tame Impala.
However, this record is much, much, much better than that of Tame Impala (in my opinion).
Let's say that compared to that one, which I find quite acidic (in sound), dizzying (in a positive sense), quite evocative, this one is also gentle, pop, fantastical, catchy, fun, exciting, melodically and rhythmically varied, a bit like the first one by Cymbals.
I recommend it to you with affection, sending a big psychedelic kiss while I prepare to enjoy it all over again (the Hendrixian guitar flourishes of "You Broke my Cool," the expanded and nostalgic echoes of the '70s of "Eye Pattern Blindness," and more), with the inevitable aftermath, lying on a large lilac sunflower in the immense and cloudless sky of my bedroom on a Sunday afternoon (those are the aftereffects…).
That's all.
