POLARBEAR was a Los Angeles underground project active in the mid–late 1990s, led by Eric Avery with Harold "Biff" Sanders and collaborators. The group released a remixes vinyl, the Chewing Gum EP and the 1999 LP Why Something Instead Of Nothing?, blending electronic funk, low-fi electronics and late Californian psychedelia.

Eric Avery (former bassist and songwriter of Jane's Addiction) led POLARBEAR. The project performed around forty shows, released a vinyl ('Polar Bear?' 1996), the Chewing Gum EP (1997) and the LP Why Something Instead Of Nothing? (1999), and disbanded after the album.
