"...this could be where it all goes wrong, this could be my swansong… this could be the very last thing that you hear from me" (Last thing).
That's how this album by Polak starts, the band of the Fijalkowski brothers (Pete and Krzysztof) who, around 1991, were in two different bands, indie hopes, the Bardots and Adorable, who produced excellent records but with little commercial success. Something had gone wrong. And this could be the last chance. There is no trace of the influences of the Bardots and Adorable, who played everything between shoegazers and dark flangered reminiscences (Pretty O). This time it's more traditional indie rock, if anything, you can recognize the simple and effective style with which they play the guitar: in "Tracer," a solo of a single note comes out of nowhere, loaded with effect and a masterful bending. The favorite, from the title itself, is "Storm Coming": "there’s a storm ccooooming, I’ve been saving my dreams for rainy days," a majestic perfect song, I don’t know why, but that's how Oasis should have been if they hadn't decided to become a caricature of themselves and disappear into their own hole after the first album. And again, a great guitar in "Impossible," a mid-tempo, lazy song “so don’t feed your hope…”. On the track listing shown only on the back of the cd, they skip number 6, present on the disc, a short instrumental. "Hang up" closes the album; in the tail end, you can hear 'Last Thing' again “this could be my swansong,” and if you have the cd on repeat, it connects perfectly with the opening "Last Thing." A beautiful album, ten honest songs, great guitars played just enough "simple and effective." Precisely for this reason, it will be their swansong. And they knew it too. Great cover too, a directional arrow on worn-out asphalt, full of cracks.
