THE REVIEW

What the heck happened to Poison The Well? Granted, their process of moving away from metal-core and hardcore in general (not to mention that at the beginning they were even influenced by death… ) was known, but that the transformation would be so drastic and, above all, such that it would lead them into sonic territories that, honestly, I don’t see how they could feel like their own, leaves one perplexed.

Even after leaving the major (Atlantic, with which they released the previous "You Come Before You") and returning to a specialized label like Ferret, a change of direction was hoped for. But at this point, it seems clear that the band has decided to take a path that has nothing to do with the past. Often we find ourselves faced with tendentially melodic tracks (beyond the rasping vocals and incisive riffing) that mix hard rock, post-punk, "scream rock'n'roll," and a sort of heavy emo sound, which put (metaphorically) in the mouth of Poison The Well looks like a penguin on the beaches of the Caribbean…!

They are completely free to play what they want (but please tell me where you want to go with a song like "Slow Good Morning"!!!), and I am equally free to express my disappointment with "Versions" (regardless of the stylistic mutations or interests made evident here).

They manage to write the chapter of artistic maturity.

They transition from tight arrangements to sweet and intense ones with an ease that only the greats possess, managing to be convincing and to give listeners chills.
