THE REVIEW

PMS is the project of pianist Martina Mollo and violinist Caterina Bianco: they are two musicians who met at the Naples Conservatory. The synergy between the two is immediately remarkable, leading them to experiment with the most heterodox musical forms, breaking away from the classical repertoire. Their collaboration with various projects is a testament to this, including Argine, known for their affiliation with the Italian dark scene. Finally, the duo decided to name themselves PMS. The roots of classical music obviously remain essential in their background, however, by playing and experimenting, they manage to find a personal "language," undoubtedly influenced by the most disparate listening experiences. Thus, after an EP released in 2016 by Ark Records titled "Premenstrual Syndrome," in 2017, "Di giallo in grigio," their first full-length album, was finally released thanks to Arealive. We are faced with an album with changing atmospheres: it is an impressionistic and melancholic music steeped in classical sounds. The piano of Caterina Bianco is very prominent and takes center stage: the tracks are partly instrumental and partly sung. The rhythmic section is obtained through programmed synths that add, at times, an almost avant-garde touch to the music. Overall, it results in a good product, which may appeal to those who follow new age music and to those who are simply curious and want to engage with new and fresh musical proposals.
