I hate playing cards, but the other night with friends at home we ended up playing a little poker, I gave in for once. Low lights, smoke in the room, alcohol on the table. The atmosphere was perfect for a damn poker game.
"Since we're at my place, I choose the music," I say. Seems fair, right?
I had heard "Closer" in the car that afternoon and couldn't wait to listen to it again... Ok! I press play on the player and we're off.. Perfect. For that hour and a half, it was a perfect poker game. Perfect soundtrack..
Four serious guys, cold and focused on the cards and/or the music.
I found myself nodding my head, sipping along to the beat of Headcase, Mind Encode, Mind In Rewind and more. How beautiful this album is, pure, cold, light and heavy, hypnotic, relaxing and soft, acid and sad. Sometimes I wonder how anyone could not like electronic music, and perhaps this "Closer" (and a bit of the whole Plastikman discography) increasingly convinces me that it is sound art. So it must be liked. Just kidding, of course, but I hope you can appreciate it as much as I did.
Technically, the tracks are excellent, Plastikman's style is entirely his own and can be found in this album, as in "Musik," "Consumed," "Artifakts." He hasn't lost anything like many artists do, but stays straight and true to his path, just like all the tracks on the album.

Listening to Richie Hawtin at low volume is like not listening to him at all.
It’s really true, for certain music you need the right environment.

Closer is an endless, symmetrical, alienating, and coldly calculated journey.
This album is a great adventure for those who possess the right sensory coordinates.
