The Plasmatics were an American punk band, founded in the late '70s and led by a former stripper who was a friend and/or fling of Lemmy.

Wendy O. Williams was much more emancipated than the various riot grrrls that would overrun '90s punk. She was a woman with guts and knew her stuff!

The music contained in the first Plasmatics album, in some respects, can be compared to that of the Misfits: a lot of desire to shock and play with the macabre.

A robust and sharp punk, at times leaning towards heavy metal. There's even a quirky instrumental digression (listen to "Dream Lover").

Wendy's voice is halfway between that of a hyper-angry rock chick and an alluring porn diva. Screams and moans. I recommend, in this regard, that you admire her on stage.

The tracks that impressed me the most? "Living Dead," "Butcher Baby," "Test Tube Babies," and the aforementioned "Dream Lover."

The rest is still at a high level.

After this first chapter, the band would turn towards an even more metallic sound and, probably, this would cause true punksters listening to wrinkle their noses. Should we consider it a flaw? I don't know and I don't care.

In 1998, sad but true, Wendy decided to end it all in a horrific way. She was no longer a young girl, but it's known that the pain of living spares no one.

RIP baby.
