Planes Mistaken for Stars

Musical Group

American rock band formed in Peoria, Illinois (later associated with Denver), known for a raw, lo-fi post-hardcore sound and the hoarse vocals of Gared O'Donnell.

Formed in Peoria, Illinois and later associated with Denver. Mercy was originally released in 2006. The band broke up in 2008 and later reformed. Deathwish (Jacob Bannon) handled a reissue of Mercy in 2012. Gared O'Donnell is the group's vocalist.

ZeroKanada awards Mercy a 5/5, praising Gared O'Donnell's hoarse, world-weary vocals and the band's abrasive post-hardcore sound. The review highlights the album's atmosphere of pessimism and disillusionment and notes a Deathwish reissue arranged by Jacob Bannon. Mercy is presented as a deservedly revived work.

For:Fans of post-hardcore, punk and underground rock; readers of album reviews.

A hoarse voice worn by time and exasperated, almost as if it were constantly exhaling the last breath after a difficult battle, is the calling card of Gared O'Donnell, who then sees fit to strike more than willingly at the strings, not only vocal but also on a guitar that, crossing paths with Chuck French's, roars without retreating an inch, seeking to leave an indelible mark in a life constantly hammered by illusions where finding the right balance is a mission practically aborted at the outset, if not suicidal.
