The first album of an incredibly ironic, sharp, and unabashedly talented group with great musical technique.
Produced by the genius Otar Bolivecic, who already discovered Elio e le storie tese, this album of Venetian reggae forcefully enters the history of dialect music, confirming itself as a true Cult.
The band's frontman, called Sir Oliver Skardy, is a strange character: extremely cross-eyed, always high, and if you meet him on the bridges and streets of Venice, you could easily mistake him for a homeless person...but the best thing is that he works as a school janitor!!!!!
This record is full of good music that serves as a backdrop to lyrics that are sometimes serious (politics, legalization of soft drugs, pollution), sometimes more frivolous.
The first single released is Pin Floi, which is probably the group's most well-known song; the song tells of the Pink Floyd concert in Piazza San Marco in Venice in the 90s and, with much sharp irony, criticizes the city council for approving such "concerts of this size right in Venice"; and the chorus gets stuck in your head: "Oi ndemo a vedere in Pin Floi, Oi ndemo a vedere i Pin Floi".
The track that gives the album its title is a particular reggae that draws from noir sounds with a sax dominating! They mock the politicians of the time: "Those who command, they're really a Bad Gang, the more we go forward... we can never get tired of singing about them...". Splendid!!...
The album is a succession of sounds, colors, and carefree emotions, offering historic pieces of the band like Marghera (the band's hometown full of factories), Bateo (the only place in Marghera), and Bienal (a description of the Venice Biennale) which doesn't talk about cinema but rather: "ieo, ieo, quanta mona che gheè ala Bienal".
There is only one love song: Bea Fia.... "...che bea che ti sè, ti me piase davero, adeso si me tise te piaso un poco anca mi", a great atmospheric piece.
In conclusion, we also find a cover of the light-hearted "La mia moto" by Jovanotti; the title becomes "So mato par la mona", which in this track is celebrated with famous lines like "...so mato par la mona, piu mato che i cavai"...hilarious.
The other tracks slide by with pleasure, always recounting in reggae style the lagoon's discontents that "Our" heroes are forced to endure.
A definitely original album, a sincere dialect album, alive and engaging that, once played, will turn a gloomy day into a sunny and sparkling one.
A final mention for the cover, where Skardy is depicted with eyes without pupils (a reference to an old public service announcement against drugs) and next to him a small lion (the band's logo) exclaims: "CHI LEGA TI SPEGNE".... the Pitura definitely have it tough...!!!!...
