THE REVIEW

What can be said about an album like Vai mò?

I wouldn't want to sit here and describe my impressions for each musical track... what strikes me and what has always struck me about this album from the first moment I listened to it.... (bought in the distant 1982.... sigh.... so many memories...).

Even today, when I listen to this small great album again... (preferably in spring - summer)... my fertile imagination begins to fly... accompanied by these simple... clean... warm sounds...

Pino Daniele was truly a master then... concise tracks of no more than 5 or 6 minutes... with a few exceptions...

He gave you little jewels of disarming simplicity... a dreamy guitar... the sweet and fluid carpet of Joe Amoruso's keyboards... the perfectly fitting sound of Rino Zurzolo's bass... the synchronicity of Tullio de Piscopo... everything perfect... the warm and blended sound of James Senese's sax... Fabio Forte's trumpet... and the masterful embroidery of a splendid Tony Esposito... all as a perfect backdrop to the voice and guitar of the great Pino... sweet romantic songs that then transitioned to more soul... more funk... in a wholly personal and unique manner... a fluidity and continuity of pieces that could be connected by a single thread... almost as if one could write a film about it... (as he jokingly mentioned on a show.... talking about his soundtracks in Troisi's films)...

Little jewels... little big dreams of everyday stories... memories of past summers... youthful loves... suburbs... questions about life...

Sketches... small great emotions... that touch your heart and really make you dream and perhaps shed a tear...

I still can't understand how Pino got lost along the way today... caught up in pseudo-intellectual quests... forcing there... where music only asks to be simple and clear like the water of a stream...

"It is usually thought that the album of maturity is the third one: in my opinion, it’s this one."

"It’s too reductive to speak of his music by only referencing the blues. Here you find everything: funky, jazz, Mediterranean and Neapolitan musical tradition."
