Formed around 1980 in Cheltenham, England, Pigbag released the instrumental single "Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag" in 1981 which became a major hit. Their album Dr. Heckle And Mr. Jive followed in 1982. The band toured internationally, had later success in Japan, released further albums and eventually disbanded.

Best known for the 1981 instrumental single "Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag" (which remained in the UK Top 100 for 52 weeks) and for blending funk, brass, and post-punk energy on early-1980s releases.
