LA RECENSIONE

Two years after the release of the debut album "Leave No Trace" (2004), the second work by Piers Faccini comes out at the end of 2006, "Tearing Sky".

The album does not deviate at all from the previous one. We find his musical sound as a traditional old-school singer-songwriter, with delightful blues inspirations and here, more than in the previous one, a splash of influences from 'world music'. We especially find the same calm and sad atmosphere, reflective and melancholic, which is already very lively and well characterized in "Leave No Trace".

More substantial than the previous, a full 14 tracks. The leading track is called "If I", a splendid blues, paced by irresistible guitar riffs, accompanied by Faccini's excellent vocal performance and closed by a remarkable 'special' finale: surely the most impactful piece the French author has ever composed, destined to become one of his most famous songs.

When the lights dim and the rhythms slow down, Faccini is always able to deliver magical twilight atmospheres. This is the case with the wonderful, reflective, dramatic, and resigned ballad "Fire In My Head", warm and whispered voice, soft and slow rhythm, these are the ingredients with which the singer-songwriter has crafted my favorite track on the album, the one worth listening to twice every time. Extreme simplicity of chords and arrangements for an infinitely great piece. Other beautiful ballads in the work are also noteworthy: "At The Window Of The World", "Come The Harvest", and "Days Like These".
Even when he pushes on more pressing rhythms, he manages to craft excellent pieces, accompanied by notes of traditional blues: "Midnight Rolling", "Talk To Her" and "Sons And Daughters".

The new talent launched by JP Plunier (already producer of Ben Harper and Jack Johnson) does not disappoint the expectations created with the release of the equally successful "Leave No Trace", crafting another near-masterpiece that shines for compositional balance and great atmospheres.
