Piero Ciampi 5/5

History is made this way, it is written only by the winners, but it is the losers, the supporting players, the misunderstood who leave a mark.

Piero Ciampi belongs to the second category, that of meteors lost in the oblivion of generations, whose trail illuminated only a few select, attentive listeners, who did not settle for Tenco or Battisti to understand the evolution of our music, this cursed Italian music, so reluctant towards extremes, yet so predisposed to standardized artistic interpretations.

To get out of this tunnel, Piero Ciampi is the ideal cure, the escape route, made of poetry mixed with an irony that slides between the polemic of Andare Camminare Lavorare, the rejection of orthodox feminism in Adius, the sad autobiography of Ha Tutte le Carte in Regola. The lyrics are unusual for the classic Italian repertoire of the time, they seem to come from a French bohemian, sad and decadent, an observer of a reality filtered through alcohol and from the window of a bar. The epicenter of his production is the narration of desperate lives, on the edge: the crazy, the drunkards, the misfits, people like those told in Dario di Livorno, who kill with a gun, and realize that freedom is not even for the mad.

This anthology, published by the unforgettable RCA (label, unfortunately disappeared) in 1990, describes the many sides of this artist forgotten by all, and perhaps even by God, who died of throat cancer in 1980. Recommended to all those who want something different from Italian music of the 60s, who seek an Italian unusual, poetic, genuine, in which to find their own stories, and forget the past for a moment, better if with a glass of wine.

Cheers Piero.
