PIERLUIGI PIERETTI - Love Will Come Tomorrow, in a Brand New Day
(Self-produced)
Despite an unrefined cover, which doesn't match the quality of the music in this debut album, and despite the rather "predictable" track titles, the content of "Love will come tomorrow, in a brand new day" is anything but banal. In fact, perhaps due to Pieretti's spontaneity and at times naivety, we find ourselves facing an album that often leaves us baffled. It brings to mind Thelonious Monk, with his staggered and, indeed, unpredictable style. But clearly, there was a mammoth artist, bringing the lesson of free jazz to the piano, but also sudden pop diversions that made him known to many. Pieretti, with the necessary distance from Monk (of course), has an approach, when he sits at the piano, that is monkian, which, even though only occasionally makes us think of jazz, takes us through atmospheres, styles that at times are also pop, with incredible simplicity. It is also noteworthy that almost all the tracks are very short. Like the greats of electronic music, who didn't allow themselves to exceed the "song form" format of three minutes, three and a half minutes, Pieretti stays within very pop temporal parameters. Almost as if searching for openings for a future as a mainstream pop composer. Who knows... Maybe, along with love, one day... in a brand new day...
