Who doesn't remember a hit from a few years ago, a refined dance song titled "If I ever feel better"? Well, that song is by Phoenix, a French band returning after their debut album titled "United," which contained that little gem and a few other light and catchy songs. Mmm... refined music... French... if you're thinking of Air, I'll immediately tell you yes, we're very close, even though while Air are (seem?) posh and serious, these guys seem (are?) the carefree and goofy cousins.
Ironically, the second song on this CD is titled "Run, run, run," almost like one contained in "Talkie Walkie," and the difference between the two styles is evident: there a metallic whispered voice and dark and minimal electronic background, here a pop guitar that supports a syncopated rhythm that captivates you from the first notes.
The common denominator between the two groups remains the refinement and melody, as in the beautiful "Everything is Everything" (I could be wrong, but I believe it is the first single released from the album) and ballads like "Love for Granted" (ideal for intimate cuddling moments...) and the title track, which, placed at the end of the CD, lulls the listener to the inevitable press of the "repeat" button.
In my opinion, it is a very underrated band, perhaps also because many have labeled them (too quickly, I add!) as a "one-hit band" incapable of offering something new. Just under 38 minutes of music may seem short, but trust me, they are truly quality! Not recommended!
