LA RECENSIONE

Master & Commander (2003), by Peter Weir, starring Russell Crowe

I don't have much to say. It can be criticized from a few points of view, it is a great film, but the gist is: how bad does Russell Crowe look?

Too much.

And he deserves it all. Everything.

Especially the scene where, in the battle, he emerges from below deck dazed by bullets and cannons (not those cannons that stun the rest of us, the ones that shoot) and you think "mo' s'incazza" but you would never imagine that he would start roaring like a lion!"

And there you are, standing on the couch and your woman looks at you with disdain, but deep down in your heart you know you are right and that Russell would be proud of you.

Nothing more.

The result is a film of undeniable value but one that fails to convey emotions.

What remains in mind is a handful of characters who have based their lives on honor, homeland, and friendship.
