Many of you will know the aforementioned director for his latest releases such as the trilogy of "The Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong", but before dedicating himself to blockbusters, our Jackson enjoyed experimenting in a series of films with strong trash/splatter content. These certainly do not boast the special effects of his latest releases, although the lack of means contributes to making these films special, with their raw and over-the-top charm, always teetering between genius and madness; where technical limitations are compensated with abundant imagination (for example in "Bad Taste," a film in which aliens land in New Zealand to grind up humans for their fast-food chain, they are, until the final scene, depicted as ordinary people strictly dressed in blue trousers and light blue shirts), malice, and plenty of blood, as he didn't have to hold back in fear of censorship by the Majors and such. Peter can vent every sick idea that crosses his mind in these films.
"Meet the Feebles" is the director's gore film that I prefer, practically take the Muppets and add a rotten, decadent atmosphere, drugs, explicit sex scenes between a walrus and a cat, and lots (really, lots) of violence and fake blood!
The film initially starts quietly, presenting itself, thanks also to the childish look of the characters (either puppets or people in costume), as a work for tender children, but this will only highlight by contrast the insane delirium that will soon erupt, culminating in the brutal final massacre.
The story follows the events of a bizarre theatrical company, and as the events unfold, we get involved in a love triangle (between a cat, a vengeful hippopotamus, and a walrus), meet a terminally ill rabbit due to venereal diseases, a gay fox director, a heroin-addicted knife-throwing frog and Vietnam veteran, a fetishist anteater, a cow pornstar and many others, whose lives will intertwine in a horrible spiral of death and devastation.
As sick as it is entertaining!
