I had to choose something truly special to write my first review on DeBaser, and what better event than the concert of my favorite artist? Seeing Peter Gabriel live was truly the fulfillment of a dream, one of the most exciting moments of my life. I bought the concert ticket the day after reading the news, even though I knew full well that on July 3rd I would be in the midst of studying for my final exams, but for Gabriel, I would do this and more.

Before starting to talk about Gabriel's performance, I would like to say a few words about the band that preceded him. They were Charlie Winston & The Oxymorons, a group that really impressed me, so much so that I even bought their album that was on sale there. The singer's voice is truly sensational, the songs very nice, and their stage presence is not bad either. A great start to a great concert.

At 9:20 PM, ten minutes before the time written on the ticket, the lights go out and the 8,000 people present at Capannelle are ready for the Genius's entrance!! Gabriel enters from one side of the stage dressed in white with a black jacket and immediately begins the wonderful "The Rhythm Of The Heat". The lighting effects on stage are fantastic, the band playing with Gabriel is excellent (David Rhodes and Tony Levin certainly need no introduction) and he is, in my opinion, simply one of the greatest frontmen ever. He doesn't show his age at all, but still enjoys jumping from one side of the stage to the other, encouraging the audience and doing his hilarious "dances" with Rhodes and Levin.

From start to finish (the concert lasted almost two hours), it is a constant whirl of emotions. After three songs, Gabriel takes a piece of paper and reads us a speech in a (nearly) perfect Italian, in which he explains that he let the fans choose the setlist since he didn’t have any new songs to present at the beginning of the tour. You can really feel the fans' influence, the concert lacks some of Gabriel's most famous songs (“Shock The Monkey” above all), but some gems that he hadn't played live for a very long time are performed. I won’t go into detail about the entire setlist (also because I don't remember it exactly), but only about the most beautiful and emotional moments (at least for me). "Blood Of Eden" was a very touching moment, as was "The Mother Of Violence" sung by his daughter (excellent execution). "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Sledgehammer", and the concluding "Biko" were very engaging, while personally, the most beautiful moment was when he performed "Solsbury Hill".

In conclusion, despite the regret of being born too late and not being able to see this great artist in concert with Genesis, last night I was able to attend one of the concerts I most wanted to see, and Peter Gabriel certainly did not disappoint my expectations.
