Peter Banks was a British guitarist, an early member and co-founder of Yes (late 1960s) and later leader of the band Flash. He released several solo albums, including Two Sides of Peter Banks and Self-Contained, and collaborated with notable musicians on his records. He died in 2013.

Founding member of Yes (1968) and later leader of Flash; left Yes and was replaced by Steve Howe. Two Sides of Peter Banks (1973) features extensive collaboration with Jan Akkerman and guest appearances from musicians such as Phil Collins, Steve Hackett and John Wetton (as reported in reviews). Died in 2013 at age 65.

Two DeBaser reviews (both rated 4/5) present Peter Banks as an underappreciated, talented guitarist rooted in progressive rock. Two Sides of Peter Banks is described as an atmospheric, semi-improvised guitar duo record with notable guests; Self-Contained is a lengthy, entirely instrumental solo record showcasing Banks' multi-style guitar work. Both reviews recommend the albums to fans of progressive and improvised guitar music.

For:Fans of progressive rock, instrumental guitar music, listeners who enjoy semi-improvised/jam-session recordings, Yes and Flash followers.

Peter Banks died alone like a dog and with very few people to mourn him (none of the brave Yes at his funeral, to say): he deserved better and I hold him dear.

It’s an excellent guitar album, even if it cannot be called a masterpiece, it is pleasant to hear the 'roar' of an old lion (sixty-one years old) who still has a lot to say.
