THE REVIEW

Pete Yorn (July 27, 1974) - American singer-songwriter and guitarist, has produced some good alternative rock albums.

Scarlett Johansson (November 22, 1984) - world-renowned actress, multiple Golden Globe nominee. As a singer, she released an album of Tom Waits covers in 2008 ("Anywhere I Lay My Head") and created a cover of Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye" for one of her films in 2009 ("He's Just Not That Into You".)

I honestly didn't know Pete, and I was completely unaware of Scarlett's musical side; I was more focused on her physical (how could I blame myself) and cinematic aspects.

A short while ago (thanks to the magazine "Rockstar") I filled these gaps and, intrigued by the nice comment I read, decided to give "Break Up" (2009) a chance.

In hindsight, I can say I chose well. The two know what they're doing.

Two deep voices that together bring to life pleasantly retro atmospheres ("Relator", "Wear And Tear" and "I Don't Know What To Do"); delightful alternative pop rock tracks in the style of Belle and Sebastian ("Search Your Heart" and "Blackie's Dead"); acoustic pieces ("Clean" and "Someday") and others of classic indie pop ("I Am The Cosmos" and "Shampoo").

All in just under half an hour.

Short, delicate, companionable. A little gem.
