This album celebrates the complete maturation of a band that had already proven to have what it takes to make a name for themselves since their debut album ("Waiting to happen" -1998-).
Thus, a new piece is added to the ensemble of new independent Italian bands, where it seems to me that a generational change that would give new impetus to our music is struggling to occur after the wave of excellent groups that emerged in the second half of the nineties.
The most interesting thing, in my opinion, is that these new bands (Baustelle, Virginiana Miller, Gatto Ciliegia …) show a clear inclination towards pop, not the polished and sterile kind of Sanremo-like songs, but a pop made of research, love for detail, and careful arrangement.
An army of musicians, rather than rock stars, is emerging.
Perturbazione is exactly that, fine composers, craftsmen of the chorus, who have loved and elaborated on the Italian music created so far without being overly derivative in their compositions. The sound texture is soft and complex, with echoes of Six Minute War Madness in the guitar patterns, yet the song form remains untouchable (such as in the latest 24 Grana).
The lyrics in Italian are beautiful and interesting, demonstrating maturity and good readings. Perturbazione is a group of respectable individuals, and it shows. Perhaps that is the only flaw. Everything appears too serene and composed, the harmonious melodies and the delicate cello convey an immutable and elegant calm. The jolt you would expect never comes, the passionate moment, the excess, the thrill of surprising the listener.
It just lacks a bit of boldness, but that does not take away from the fact that "In circolo" is one of the most significant works heard this year.
