My first two encounters with progressive music from Cuba (a country one would hardly associate with our favorite genre) were quite positive. Listening to Sintesis and Naranja Mecanica in fact struck me very favorably and left me with a good predisposition to listen to new prog bands coming from the Caribbean island. It was with great pleasure, therefore, that I approached listening to this CD by Perfume De Mujer, trusting in the old saying "third time's a charm." Thus, it was with some regret that, as the listening proceeded, I found the old popular wisdom crumbling before my eyes (or ears?). The progressive proposed by these "Perfume of Woman" is indeed the least digestible thing that has happened to me to listen to in many years of passionate listening. Pure experimentation, funky, jazz-rock, RIO, noise, various follies of Zappa's memory: in the 19 tracks that make up the CD, ranging from less than a minute to over 21, you can find all of this. Surely the extreme originality of the result is the only point in favor that I can find in this album that to call difficult is an understatement. I don't know what to tell you, I might just be the limited one, unable to grasp the artistic message of this band (after all, they have reached their third CD, so someone must like them...). In short, if you are used to listening to the strangest bands, if for you the most extreme things produced by Fripp make you think of the "Canzone del Sole," if you consider Sylvian's "Blemish" a somewhat too commercial disc, well here you will find your match. The others... steer clear!
